My B-Day Get Away...

Surprises always get me! I am a true believer of fully enjoying a gift from someone you love and who loves you in return; so, by going with the flow of it being a surprise, allows for just that! Now let me explain a little bit more. I do not need every moment to be "a moment", rather I am actually a simpleton. I prefer there to be memories, shared laughs and quality time-LESS IS MORE!

My husband totally gets me. And for that I am writing todays blurb. Lets go back a few weeks, to when we started discussing another year of my existence. {insert eyerolls here} I made a specific plead to not wanting anything. I rallied behind that for a good few minutes. And well, like a romantic that he is, he made me believe that he "got the message".

A week later he mentions that I need to block out this specific weekend- ummm WHAT?!?! Promising me that I will be happy.... and he can't tell me anything else. Now, a few days ago I notice some odd-ish behavior. (which actually makes me giggle)

Some of you may be getting a little nervous (if you don't appreciate a good surprise) right about now. KEEP READING THOUGH!!

I can't go 'in that room'-I can't look 'in there'-I can't open 'this bag'- I need to 'pack only these things' and the secrets go on!!!!!! {insert eyerolls here}

We leave at 5a.m. Saturday morning. I get woken up and told not to SNOOP (he knows me better than that) {insert eyerolls here}

Make 2 stops and get on the road. Can I insert here that we live crazy off-scheduled busy lives. So, time away, alone and together are really not too common. About an hour in, he starts asking me if I have any ideas? (best part for him because he likes to know he accomplished his mission) I explain what I think: heading East makes me feel like desert, river; but we don't own the toys do this spontaneously. Also we are quite different in that I LOVE HEAT, SUN, MORE HEAT and MORE SUN!! He is a shade, cool air kinda guy.

To my surprise and his excitement- WE ARE CAMPING AT THE LAKE!!! Under the stars. And we have paddleboards! YAY! Disclaimer- it is 108 degrees. HE REALLY LOVES ME.

Well, it gets even better... Husband packed all the yummiest, special things to make my day/weekend great. AND... it was just the 2 of us. Me and him ... The best decision yet!

ohhhhh and it has always been a dream to fly fish, so he got me fly lures and line for my fly rod. (yes I am a newbie and probably used the verbiage incorrectly) {insert eyerolls here}

I was able to capture 2 pictures before my phone died; I will share them with you. But I warn you now the image quality is awful and I DON'T CARE. The stars, I haven't seen stars so clearly (demise of living in congestion) and as I lay there wide awake, staring.. I swear I saw clouds being hand painted in the sky.

The absolute best part about this weekend was the disconnect. The pull away from anxiety. The quiet, draw to boredom. Nothing mattered. It was beautiful. Stunning. Breath taking. I hated to leave.

If this wasn't enough and you want to continue reading, let me take you through the epically funny/not so funny at the time, situation of this morning. As I jumped up to a magnificent sunrise; eager for coffee, the paddleboard and silence (the lake and all its goers are still sleeping) a large bass begins taunting me, jumping out of the water, right in front of me. I wander closer to assess, eager to implement the use of my flyrod. The environment is perfect, but then again, it's NOT...... "babe, WHERE ARE THE PADDLEBOARDS???" !!!!!!!!!!!!! (reminder: they aren't ours to lose) Gone, they are just GONE!!!! Stolen? Washed away? (yes we pulled them out of the water before dark)

3 hours later, the scavenger hunt is over. We accost this group of young, middle 20's adults and I plead my story and ask for their help to recover them. They were the coolest group of people- willing to come to our rescue, they (very intensely I might add) zoomed off on their jet skis to hunt down 2 feral paddleboards. RECOVERED.

Memories, laughs and quality time. It was my perfect b-day get away.
